Team VA's Summer Off To A Fast Start

Today Team VA left home for the AAU Region 2 National Championships at Millersville University in Millersville, PA.


Led by Emily Fiona McKenna (heptathlon) and a small contingent of new and returning members, Team VA finished day one with a strong showing.

In pursuit of scoring over 4000 pts and a top ten US national HS performance in the heptathlon, Fiona led off with a strong performance in the 100mHs winning her division easily in 17.30 seconds. She followed up with a toss of the shotput and a 4’ 10” performance in the high jump.


Finally, for the close of day one, Fiona blazed 26.82 seconds to win the heptathlon 200m closing the day with a combined score of 2,222 pts.


Next to hit the track was the trio of sprinters Julian Wilson and sisters Sofía and Victoria Vazquez in the 100m.


Julian recorded a time of 12.95 seconds while Sofía and Victoria qualified for the finals with performances of 13.54 seconds (3rd qualifier) and 14.73 seconds (6th qualifier) respectively in their age divisions.


Later in the day, both Julian and Victoria would record personal bests in the 200m.

Julian clocked 26.07 seconds while Victoria sped away to 29.84 seconds to close the day for Team VA.


Friday morning will bring the close to the women’s heptathlon and Fiona’s pursuit of 4000 points.

Sofía and Victoria will hit the track on Saturday for the finals in the 100m.


Then on Sunday, Kedar Moore, Tyler Grabinski, and Jason Verrier arrive ready to pole vault to close the championships for Team VA.
