Saturday morning marked the third day at the AAU Region 2 National Championships at Millersville University and Team VA's Sofía and Victoria Vazquez were slated for a return to the track for the finals in the 200m and 100m respectively.
After her dazzling performance in the 200m during the qualifying rounds and earning the number three seed for the finals Sofía experienced slight tenderness in her leg the decision was made to refrain for competition out of an abundance of caution.
That left Victoria to take to the track in the 100m and she did not disappoint.
Victoria fought down the track to a close 7th place finish in a final (14.80 sec) that saw over half of the field within .1 seconds of each other.
Afterwards, when asked about the race, her performance, and earning her first medal Victoria mustered, “I don’t really care about that” but rather got excited looking forward to the next competition.
Victoria will be skipping the competition in Edison this upcoming week but will return to competition soon.
Tomorrow the Team VA pole vault squad of Kedar Moore, Tyler Grabinski, and Jason Verrier will arrive hoping for a few higher bars and PR’s.
