On the second day of the AAU Region 2 National Championships at Millersville University Fiona McKenna blasted the rest of the heptathlon field to finish her day earning the gold medal.

Beginning just after sunrise, Fiona bounced into long jump pit and further extended her 400+ point lead from the previous evening.

From the long jump the field moved to the javelin.

With an extreme cushion between herself and her nearest competitor Fiona maintained her dominance over the field in the javelin.

Then, for the final event, Fiona led her first 800m sprint from start to finish clocking 2:41.34 seconds rounding out her performance with a combined score of 3,522 pts. Her performance was almost 1,000pts over her nearest competitor.

Although Fiona’s performance is her first ever competition in the heptathlon her score still ranks her nationally within the top 20 girls in her class (‘23).

And while Fiona is hanging up her spikes the weekend, she is continuing to prepare for the USATF Jr Olympics at Jacksonville, FL in late July where she will face stiffer competition in contention for the title of Jr Olympic National Champion.

Tomorrow Sofía and Victoria Vazquez will return to the track for the finals in the 100m.

On Sunday, the Team VA pole vault squad of Kedar Moore, Tyler Grabinski, and Jason Verrier arrive ready to vault to close the championships for Team VA.
