While competing at the VA Showcase 2021 indoor track and field competition, Perry Irons ran her fastest 300 meters sprint and set a new PR of 41.39s.
The Virginia Showcase 2021 Indoor Meet is one of most competitive events in the country outside of the HS National Championships.
Due to Covid, many competitions have been cancelled and left a shortage of opportunities driving competitors to a few highly competitive events on the road to the Indoor National Championships. The Showcase featured athletes from up and down the East Coast.
It was a year ago almost to the day when Perry set her personal best in the 300m at the Armory Track in NYC. That weekend at the New Balance Games Perry skirted 43.49s to set a personal best and a new Team VA record.
This evening Perry blasted over 2 seconds off of her personal best dropping to 41.39s to place 24th in a field of 228 athletes.
That performance also claims the Team VA All-Time record and sets a new Germantown Academy HS record.
" I felt really good today, but didn't think I ran that fast", Perry said. "This is one of the times I come off the track and am very excited and happy about my performance."
Perry Irons who has committed to Bucknell University is now setting her sights on a new record in the 400m in February at the Spire Scholastic Showcase.
